Workshops for Bauhaus-Agenten

From November 7-11 2016, I was very fortunate to participate in "Material Interests: Josef Albers as Artist and Educator" A one-week workshop at the Bauhaus Dessau in Dessau Germany, organized by the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation and Stiftung Bauhaus Dessau for the Bauhaus-Agenten, a group of museum educators and art teachers who taught Bauhaus-based curricula throughout Germany for the 2019 Centennial of the Bauhaus.

Alongside my former Albers Foundation colleagues Dr. Jeannette Redensek and Fritz Horstman, and in collaboration with Meara O'Reilly, Fred Stein, and Torsten Blüme, we presented a series of workshops that explored Josef Albers's teaching practices as well as related concepts in movement, inquiry-based learning, aural illusions, and other perceptual phenomena. Aside from teaching a wonderfully attentive and wildly creative group of people, this workshop was also memorable for all of us because it coincided with the 2016 US presidential election. After waking up in the morning to find our own country looking unrecognizable to us, Fritz and I led a conceptual movement exercise we had learned from members of Wayne McGregor's dance company.
