Design & Weaving
I've been an active weaver since 2014. Mostly I enjoy designing textiles that have some practical use, including napkins, blankets, and curtains. I do not follow patterns or drafts by others, preferring instead to do my own textile design. This does not always lead to satisfactory results but it does lead to learning. I weave on a 36" 4-harness counterbalance loom.
I am not designing other objects such as furniture as frequently as I once did, but between 2010 and 2015 I made a number of pieces of wooden furniture including a bed, nightstands, a desk, a table and a large lamp. In 2017 I used some of these skills to design a number of objects and build two complex plywood tables as a part of a studio class during my M.Arch.
I have also brought my practical knowledge of weaving to bear on my scholarly interests in weaving, collaborating with Julie Jean Thomson on an exhibition and book about Weaving at Black Mountain College.
