Monuments to the Livermore Light Bulb
The longest-burning light bulb resides in a firehouse in Livermore, CA. The bulb was installed in 1901 and with the exception of a few interruptions, has been continuously illuminated ever since. The bulb may be seen on a live webcam on this website. Presumably, it will eventually burn out. Even if I do not live to see the light burn out, incandescent bulbs are on their way out. However we might feel about the quality of light they provide, in a world whose climate is rapidly changing, sacrifices must be made. In 2018 I made this series of sketches depicting monuments to incandescent light bulbs on a variety of scales from the urban / civic to the domestic.
